Theft And Power Supply Cables Vandalism In Mashashane is Becoming a Norm.

People are stealing copper cables and some are doing illegal electrical connections which effects the costs of the municipality and life of many others. Sadly this has become a habit.

The issue of illegal electrical connections in Mashashane and cable theft is at a sky high and the community is fumming. In solving such, they used to gather, unite and find the culprits on their own to deal with them in whatever way possible but that was against the law and it was prohibited.

WE currently have a huge network problem around Mapateng, Ga-moshito, up to Mandela and surrounding villages and it is alleged that batteries have been stolen from the network tower at Ngopane. During late hours of Tuesday, the 2nd of February, cables were stolen in Segoahleng some reported in from Ga-Matlapa. Some members of the ANCyl were spotted at the scene in the early morning of Wednesday to try find out the roots and also people who could be behind these illegal activities. No one has been arrested yet.

One member of the committee under the Headman of Segoahleng says that this issue is now bigger than them. "We have tried everything that we could think of to prevent these activities. Now, where to from now?

The municipality finds it difficult to keep up with the high demand to repeatedly fix the damaged electrical infrastructure as this has been made a habit in our society not only Segoahleng but Mashashane at large, surrounding areas and the whole of South Africa.

The CEO of Bull Electrical, Karabo Seolwana says that people are not aware of how tempering with electrical cables can be dangerous and results in one losing their life. Electricity needs care, experience and relevant documents to deal with. "The culprits must be found and be called to order"

"We call on the community to please assist in eradicating theft and vandalism, to allow the municipality to improve service delivery levels and continue to improve the quality of people's lives". Said the ANCyl ward-40 Chairman.

People must not look away when they know that their relatives, neighbours and friends are involved in such criminal activities.
