Rapper Jub Jub granted R10, 000 bail after charges of rape, attempted murder and assault

Rapper and TV presenter Molemo Maarohanye also known as Jub Jub, has been released on R10, 000 bail after handing himself over to police in Brixton on Thursday.

The Uyajola 9/9 presenter faces charges of rape, attempted murder and assault.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Maarohanye was allegedly charged for the crimes he committed in 2006.

The case has been postponed to 24 August.

The National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, said that the charges were brought against Maarohanye after he had made comments on a podcast in 2021.

Following the artist’s comments on the show, actress Amanda du-Pont accused him of rape and physical abuse while the two were still an item.

She posted a video on social media and claimed that the rapper raped and abuse her. It was reported that other women came forward after the actress’s viral video.

Du-Pont reportedly opened a case against Maarohanye at the Brixton police station in February 2022.

In 2012, Maarohanye along with friend Themba Tshabalala, were both sentenced to 25 years in jail each for murder, attempted murder and three other counts. The murder conviction of Maarohanye and Tshabalala was overturned to culpable homicide in a high court in Johannesburg after an appeal in 2014. The two men were released from prison in 2017.
