MTN8 Cup semi-finals Fixtures Done

MTN8 Cup holders Orlando Pirates are off to a flying start after an impressive 5-0 win against Sekhukhune United over the weekend. Goals from Phillip Ndlondlo, Monnapule Saleng and a hat-trick from Zakhele Lepasa insured the Buccaneers with a spot in the semi-finals.

Mamelodi Sundowns needed a 48th minute strike from Themba Zwane to earn a narrow win for the Brazilians over Moroka Swallows. However the Dube Birds were reduced to 10 men after Downs’ former player Andile Jali was shown his marching orders for a reckless tackle on Teboho Mokoena in the opening five minutes of the match.

Down in the Mother City, Kaizer came back from a goal down, after veteran defender Marc van Heerden opened the scoring for Cape Town City in the 23rd minute of the match. Ashley Du Preez levelled matters for Amakhosi just 6 six minutes after the half-hour mark. Chiefs new signing Edison Castillo extended the lead in the dying minutes of the game to seal a 2-1 victory for the Soweto giants.

In the other quarterfinal encounter, it took only just 99 minutes through Andre de Jong for Stellenbosch to score the first goal of the match against Supersport United after the game went into extra-time courtesy of a goalless draw.
