None of the people in the house called the cops when Senzo Meyiwa was shot, the court learns

A police officer has told the Gauteng High Court, that not even one person who was in the house the night that former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead tried to call the police, or emergency medical services after the shooting took place.

Meyiwa was gunned down in an alleged robbery at the home of his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s mother in Vosloorus in October 2014.

In his testimony, State witness Colonel Lambertus Steyn said that his investigation did not produce any evidence that the police or emergency medical services were called in the aftermath of the incident.

Defence advocate Sipho Ramosepele, told the court that his client Bongani Ntanzi did not have links with any of the people who were in the house when Steyn confirmed that his investigations found the accuse to have had connections and communicated with one of the suspects.

“The suspect just admitted that it is his number. I testified in court last week that [the] suspects know each other, my lord,” Steyn said to the court.

Fisokuhle Ntuli, Bongani Ntanzi, Muzikakhulelwa Sibiya, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Mthobisi Mncube stand trial for the murder of Meyiwa.

They are charged with murder, attempted murder, robbery with dire consequences, possession of an illegal firearm and possession of ammunition.

The trial is set to continue on Tuesday.
