The bubbly Thobela FM gospel star search winner Nkholofeleng Mahlong was born and bred in Mohlonong(Lejanna) Ga-Mashashane, the east of Polokwane in Limpopo. He is best known for his powerful, healing voice and pure loving heart.
Nkholofeleng loves to explore and try new things. Growing up, he always wanted to be a star. Nkholofeleng was part of each and every activity his school had to offer. But says at one point, he had to choose one, music. He tells us that he realised his talent at 10, when he was the lead at both church and school choirs.
Mahlong is not just a singer, he excels in drama and poetry too but enjoys music effortlessly. "I knew I touched a lot of people's hearts with my voice and I also felt good about myself when I sing", he said
Whenever Nkholofeleng was sent to the shops, people would stop him to sing for them. "My mother would shout at me everytime for taking too long when I returned home". He laughed. "My love for music, led me to cutting ties with everything else but academics. I was fine with it. I knew what I wanted. Little did I know it was not gonna be easy".
In 2020, the energetic Nkholofeleng created a Tiktok account that is today ranking on about 50 000 followers. He says the love from his fellow tiktokers made him realize that he can actually be who and what he wants to be - a star! One of the best biggest Gospel artists of our time.
The 27-year-old multi-talented singer shares with Strictly Mashashane that the Thobela FM Gospel Star Search competition was not easy that he nearly pulled out because of the pressure he endured . "Believing in myself alone, was not enough".he said. Thousands of people were participating. That did not make it any easier for Nkholo. On the other hand, his video was not doing well, but with God's grace, he made it into the top 5. Nkholofeleng was the only guy in the top 5. That was when he realised that God's grace is sufficient. Together with the help of his friends and family, he made it.
He released his first track tittled Nthute Goba Lesedi on the 21st of March. A powerful, sad, yet comforting song. Nkholo says the song was inspired by how God continuously showed him that His timing is always right, when he was about to throw in the towel.
Nkholofeleng has managed to secure a huge and tight fanbase in such a short period of time. He has fans in the neighbouring countries namely Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho. He got his first gig, for the first time in his hometown on the 07th April at Mashashane Day Of Prayer, where he shared the stage with the Honourable Shibu Molomo, Dr Ngwana Ledwaba, Mapula Monyepao, Lesiba Shika just to name a few.
Nkholofeleng encourages young fellows to utilise their social media platforms to promote their talents, businesses because if it wasn't for his tiktok account, he says he doubts he would've made it this far.
