The murder trial of Senzo Meyiwa returns to Pretoria High Court

The trial of suspected killers of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa returns to court and will start all over again. Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng who has recently come out of retirement, will be presiding over the case.

It has passed a month since Gauteng deputy judge president Aubrey Ledwaba postponed the Meyiwa trial due to medical reasons of presiding judge Tshifhiwa Maumela.

Mokgoatlheng takes over following Maumela’s suspension of allegedly failing to deliver in the time allocated for the trial to hand judgements.

Meyiwa’s family says they have been waiting for eight long years for justice and the delay is frustrating day by day.

Meyiwa who was in a relationship with girlfriend singer and actress Kelly Khumalo, was shot and killed at the musician’s Vosloorus home in October 2014.

Five men are currently on trial for murder.
