“I grew up in a house that stacked a lot of musical instruments and equipment that came in all different shapes and sizes. From the word go, I genuinely became more interested, and taught myself how to conduct the same musical tools belonging to my late grandfather” Stanza disclosed.
Like most acts who came up, and those that are still trying to break through in the music industry, Stanza uniquely shares the same sentiments. It is a lonely road, but worth sacrificing all the blood and sweat and ultimately hit the high leagues. The aspiring DJ shared “my father doesn’t approve of my hustle. While starting out as a DJ playing at clubs and taverns, he was regularly there drinking the night away. My presence always rubbed him up the wrong way every time he saw me in the same space as him. In order to distract me from playing my music where he was a frequent customer, he stopped giving me money and that also included not attending any more gigs since he cut my allowance off. One saving grace is my mother, who in many ways continues to give me her unwavering support, and helps me to reach my full potential. She is a big fan of my work and always rallies behind me every step of the way.”
Stanza rose to fame with his crowd pulling performance at Bakone Tavern, Mokopane in 2016. It is by far the biggest highlight of his music career since becoming a DJ himself. He proudly adds that the crowd that turned up the same night of him giving a performance of his life, couldn’t stop singing him their praises. Long after making everyone break heavy sweat and rocking the dance floor, he instantly became an overnight sensation. Those in attendance pampered him with gifts, gave him a pat on the back, and showered him with all the best hugs he can get for one resounding performance out of this world. Since then and now, the electrifying DJ has never looked back. By his standards, he has received a lot of bookings to play at different events countless times to date.
Usually Stanza The DJ plays music that resonates with the local market. On many other occasions in his sessions, he plays a lot of House Music (Lekompo), and it is also one genre he is famously being rooted for by many of his fans. Speaking of admiration and all the famous backing, the Mashashane-born DJ is a big follower of DJ Shimza. “DJ Shimza has accomplished a lot in the music industry. Till this day, he is still right up there with the best in the business. What I love most about him, is that his set always produces fireworks, and has “effects” completely from another planet. In my opinion, I think he is a living legend “ Stanza confidently said. Apart from rocking the decks week in and week out, Stanza’s biggest wish is to build a music school for his community (Mashashane). The goal is to unearth local talents that are often overlooked, or probably unheard of. “I want to build and run my own music academy, wherein I discover upcoming DJs and potentially market them all in good time “ Stanza concluded.
