Electrical cable theft and vandalism is, and always has been a major problem throughout the rurals of Polokwane Ga Mashashane and this has serious implications for service delivery.
This piece serves to inform the community members of Mashashane Bellingsgate and surrounding areas about the electrical transformer which has been stolen recently. This is the electrical transformer situated at Weneen, disturbing poles and other supports for transmission that leads to widespread loss of electricity therefore affecting water supply to residents in parts of Bellingsgate and or other nearby areas, also increasing crime cases.
The Polokwane Local Municipality Council apologised to consumers for the inconvenience that may have been caused at this stage because of their negligence at that time and ensured the community that technicians will be deployed on site as soon as the transformer is been replaced.
The government and the whole Mashashane area is facing a crime boat of a disturbing kind with this wave of cables and copper theft, affecting water supply that leads the residents of Bellingsgate having to use wheelbarrows each and everyday to fetch water at Bellingsgate dam for survival. The community members are threatening to take matters in their own hands due to the neglegence of Mashashane said police officers, that has ever since done nothing in all reported cases that are said to reaching 29 today. These cables at Weneen get stolen every now and then but no arrests had been made since.
One resident ,Lesetja David Phukubye tells Strictly Mashashane that the thieves were using an old, rusted Ford car with registration No.DJS 863 N to carriy these cables from the scene. Unfortunately, when they got caught red handed by some community members, the car refused to start when attempting to flee and the thieves ran for their lives .
Phukubje, together with Mashashane Connect is raising awareness to not just Bellingsgate residents , but all residents throughout Mashashane after they have been trying to get through to the Mashashane Police officers to strategies on how they can overcome, or rather oversmart these thieves hand-to-hand. This results in one party not been fully committed.
