SESHEGO COMMUNITY BUILDER REACHES OUT TO YOUNG GIRLS IN HER HOMETOWN

Born and bred in Seshego, Limpopo province, Goodness Moitsi is a talented writer, artist, a co-founder of Voice Of Worship SA, and also a proud founder of GirlPowerMovement. She studied film and television at Wyza Media Academy. The 25 year old is currently studying software engineering at Alx. Her passion for media has birthed a business company called Goodies Multimedia and Projects.

Her “Help A Girl Child” organisation called GirlPowerMovement which was established in 2021, is about character building and empowering young girls to become better in life. She organises workshops and gifts them with toiletries because she believes some don’t have the luxury to afford them. In her words she says, “we ignite the power in girls by teaching them the skills to thrive and believe in their ability to be unstoppable. This mission comes to life in our programs through workshops where we are designed to increase each girl’s self-efficacy (her belief in her ability to succeed) and boost their self-esteem.”

Goodness adds, “my inspiration for GirlPowerMovement started at an early age, and growing up as an orphan, I was disadvantaged in life as I was never mentored and taught very well on how to behave as a young girl, and because of that I told myself that no other young girl will experience what I have gone through in my life, and that pushed me to be where I am today with this organisation. The common issues that young girls are facing today are self-esteem, body image, stress, bullying, depression, cyber addiction, drinking alcohol and smoking, teen pregnancy and underage sex. And GirlPowerMovement is ready and willing to help them in any way possible.”

Goodness adores her organisation GirlPowerMovement purely because it touches and gives hope to young girls from all walks of life. According to her, loving and teaching the young girls that they are loved, appreciated and that they are not alone in this youth becoming process is every trick done in the book. It is her pride and joy. She hosts mini conferences and workshops where she also teaches them fully on how to conquer challenges faced by growing up as a girl, and she awards them with certificates of participation.

Goodness has faced a lot of challenges in her life that if it wasn’t for her never-say-die attitude, she would have long given up in life. “Most of the people did not understand my vision and they have always undermined me and kept on telling me that I cannot make it. I experienced critics from other people and my family, and that to me was so discouraging and mind you I did not have any capital to start my organisation but because I strongly believed in my vision, I managed to pull it off and that is why the GirlPowerMovement is fully existing today,” she said.

Goodness’s wish is to see her organisation(GirlPowerMovement) growing from strength to strength, and reaching out to young girls all over South Africa.
