The City’s emergency management services spokesperson Xolile Khumalo, confirmed that the cause of the explosion was due to a connected dynamite to a vehicle battery.
One person said to have died, one of the two wounded was rushed to hospital and another only suffered a couple of minor injuries.
The deceased was identified as Reason Dube by family members who were called to the scene after his body was recovered by forensic pathology officials.
The explosion follows in the wake of another blast that hit Johannesburg CBD on Wednesday night, leaving a sinkhole and claimed the life of one man with 48 casualties reported as well as 37 vehicles destroyed.
