Maphorisa_Megodung Annual Soccer Tournament will be a buzz on the streets as many people, more than a thousand will flock to Mashashane, Mapateng village sports ground to watch the soccer spectacular. The much anticipated soccer tournament will take place from the 15th to the 16th of April 2022. 8 soccer teams will fight for places in the semi-finals round, all the way to the final playing over the weekend of 16 April 2022. The tournament carries a hopping R10 000 top prize-which includes R6500 for first prize and R3500 for second place respectively.
Sparks will fly and entertainment will be galore. There will be live performance from 015 DJ, Rabthibz, Pretty Ray, DJ Spooko Mabinixa, keeping the crowd from the edge of their seats. Everyone is excited. The people of Mapateng village are always happy to host such a beautiful event. They welcome everyone from all corners of Mashashane with open arms. Social media is also flooding with tweets and posts, keeping all the soccer fanatics interested and charged up.
Since its inception in 2020, Maphorisa_Megodung soccer tournament has largely grown to become a household name in Mashashane. Over the past two years, the tournament has created lucrative economic opportunities for numerous small local businesses. “It is a good business opportunity and a fair trade as well. Roughly, I can make R1500-R2000 a day” one vendor said. The tournament is proudly sponsored by Mashashane Filling Station(MFS).
One of the event organisers Bully Seolwana added “what I can promise the fans is that this year we have improved a lot. We even strengthened the security to guard cars and the safety of the players and the spectators. All sorts of crime or misbehaving of people, will be reported directly to the South African Police Service (SAPS). We sent a letter to make a plea to them to come and be present on all days of the tournament. Their protection and service will only do us a world of good. Our safety is in good hands”.
