Low Level Bridge In Segoahleng Under Construction

For over decades, residents of Mapateng and Segoahleng villages had it the hard way having to cross from one village to the other because of the big donga laying in between.

Mind you, on the other side of the donga, there is a primary school, a church, 2 shops, bus-stop and 2 pre-schools.

After so many years of struggle and accidents occurring this side of the donga, a bridge is finally under construction thanks to the Polokwane Municipality and leaders in Mashashane.

The Principal of Mmanaga Chrech and Pre-school that is closer to the donga, Miss Beginsel Sebola is very much relieved because as a care taker of the children, they no longer have to worry about their safety of children crossing the donga.

“A child would cross the donga for a whole 5mins and you’d become unsettled standing from a distance because you do not know what’s keeping them or taking them so long”.

Wonder how children got to school each and everyday on different weather conditions? One of the parents and educators of Mantlweng Pre-School Johanna Ramaoka tells us that it was never easy, children would get to school bleeding, dirty, or even wet with shoes covered in mud due to wet spaces in the donga, especially during rainy seasons.

The teachers of all 3schools would complain about theft of NSNP food, stationery, and other things in their schools to later find them in the very same donga.

It is said that with the help of Mrs Johanna Mafokwane who was once the SGB member of one of the pre-schools, alongside the late ex-Councillor of ANC ward 14, Mrs Peggy Maraba, there were letters drafted from all 3 schools accompanied by a petition that was sent to Polokwane Municipality through Aganang Municipality rasing complaints not for the 1st time, not for the 2nd time, but more than once in 2016 and 2017. In 2021, they have finally received a positive respond.

The building of this bridge has brought employment to the youth in the village. It became useful to all people residing in these 2 villages and Mashashane as a whole including elders, disabled people, drivers and workers.
