Level 5 Loadshedding Back

What Level 5 loadshedding means is that Eskom needs to save 5000 MW. This also means South Africans will be without electricity for about 8 hours per day.

The nation is currently at level 4 loadshedding and as of Monday 16:00 till 00:00 Eskom plans to implement level 5 which is set to go on everyday at the same time until at least Wednesday 00:00. Eskom blames the increased implementation of loadshedding on high levels of breakdowns and depleted emergency generation reserves.

Eskom says 3 units at the Kusile power station are offline due to the duct failure back in October and will remain offline for a few months while repairs to the chimney takes place. Unit 1 of koeberg nuclear power station continues to generate at a reduced output over the next 3 weeks, Eskom reported.

Now Eskom’s planned loadshedding for this week is as follows;

On Monday the 21st November 2022 – from 00:00 to 16:00 the nation will be on level 4 loadshedding.

On Tuesday the 22nd November 2022 – from 00:00 to 05:00 the nation will be on level 4 loadshedding, from 05:00 to 16:00 the nation will be on level 3 loadshedding then from 16:00 to 00:00 the nation will be on level 5 loadshedding.

On Wednesday the 23rd November 2022 – from 00:00 to 05:00 the nation will be on level 4 loadshedding, from 05:00 to 16:00 the nation will be on level 2 loadshedding then from 16:00 to 00:00 the nation will be on level 5 loadshedding.

Eskom further reports that they scheduled an outage to commence in December 2022 ahead of the refueling and maintenance as the fuel is depleted.

Eskom currently has 5 354 MV on planned maintenance, while another 14 495MV of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.
