Not only does Alex want to do athletics for a living. He also plans to pursue a career in environmental science and civil construction engineering technology. Teffu has fortunately scored a scholarship to study at Newark, New Jersey in the United States of America. However the scholarship does not cover his traveling costs. Teffu is now in desperate need to raise an amount of +/-R55000 to cover travel expenses, Visa and essential stuff for him to settle in. Any donation in a form of money will go a long way to help the ambitious runner to finally make his lifetime dream come true.
Teffu attended his primary school at Mashashane Primary School. Prior to doing grade 5, he further went to Matshelane Primary School where he later completed grade 7. He furthered his studies at Mmatshipi Senior Secondary School until he matriculated in 2018. Because of the financial strains in his family, the aspiring sprinter never went as far as enrolling for a course or a degree at tertiary level. With some laboured hope, he went out looking for a job to help his mother who was and is still unemployed, to take care of his two young siblings (brother and sister). Let alone his good intentions, Alex does his business in the tracks consistently. He runs as far as 800M up to 10KM every single week from Monday to Saturday. It all started at Mashashane Primary School in 2005 when he was just only 6 years old. “Initially I took it as a hobby but as the years slowly went by, that was when I noticed that athletics might potentially make me go places. I then started putting more work in my sprinting sessions. In 2014,I went to my first national championships to represent Limpopo. I backed many personal best times finishing first more than 30 times so far in my athletic career” confidently said Alex. In the very same sporting code, he looks up to none other than Caster Semenya. He adds “looking from where she comes from, I am also not far from her situation purely because we are both from rural areas with modest backgrounds. And having said that, my motto in life is to be the best in the world, and be a good role model to the other kids who are still coming up like myself.” In his spare time, Alex does a lot of road work to maintain his own health and stay fit at all times. With all the consuming passion in the world, the young man from the dusty streets of Ga-Mashashane, sees his own future hanging in the balance. Every step of the way, he patiently reached out to a lot of athletics coaches abroad to offer him a sports scholarship but eventually he was unsuccessful. “It was until recently when a friend of mine by the name of William Mabane, shared a certain coach’s contact details. Immediately, he was very impressed after he did a background check on me, and said he will offer me a sports scholarship. He kept his word and awarded me with the same privilege (sports scholarship). However, the scholarship doesn’t cover my flight ticket and Visa plus the pocket money that will last only for 3 months” mentioned Teffu.
