Give A Child A Book: Changing Lives One Book At A Time

A non-profit organization with a unique goal to empower young people with books.

"Give A Child A Book" is aimed at empowering and assisting less fortunate schools in and around South Africa with stationary, study guides, textbooks, and virtual &printed question papers of all grades in all subjects.

"Changing lives one book at a time".

The Origin & Journey

The NPO was founded in 2018 by two young black visionaries by the names Fanessa Makhongela (20) and Thabiso Molokomme(19).

It all started after completing their matric year and having a pile of books without purpose to them anymore.

The two tried selling the books but no one wanted to buy them.

So they thought, why not donate them to students that cannot afford to buy study guides and some textbooks not offered by their schools.

That's how the idea started...

It grew into hosting an annual book drive and asking all matric class of 2018 living in Polokwane to donate their books and they will donate them to a school of choice that is experiencing a low pass rate and has disadvantaged students.

As the organization grew, they now expanded their services into an annual book drive and question paper project.

All this, to help a young black child succeed in school.

The focus of the organization is not only centered around academic education but also around educating learners about life beyond the academic sphere.

Through the organization "Give A Child A Book" hopes to instill in learners the attitude of never giving up but always chasing after their dreams.

They also educate learners on how to navigate and find their feet after school.

Success Story

They have two annual programs.

The first and biggest program is hosting an annual book drive where they collect books from the public and donate them to disadvantaged schools - both primary and high school.

Then further tutor and work with the specific school they donated books to in that year.

In 2019 they donated 200 books. And in 2020 they managed to donate more than 3000 books and question papers.

The second program is called the Question Paper Project where they organize question papers and memorandum of all DBE subjects digitally in an easy to access and data-efficient format.

This is accompanied by a fun prize of giving away data.

Upcoming Events

As indicated, this NPO hosts an annual book drive to collect and distribute books to schools/students.

And their 3rd Annual book drive will be hosted on the 26th & 27th February 2021 at Capricorn High School from 09:00-15:00.

Calling people around Polokwane to attend the event and donate books you don't use so that GACAB could donate to disadvantaged learners.

Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity that could change someone else's life for the best.
