This known choir is a group of music lovers that are blessed with a unique talent and beautiful voices from Ga-Mashashane and surrounding towns - Seshego, Matlala, and Moletjie included with members between ages of 14-43 numbered approximately 65 members, formed by a 40-year-old Mashashane Mars' veteran, Mr.Steve Madimetja Masenya.
The accident brought a lot of pain to many members, families, and BBT fans although it didn't stop them from proceeding nor growing yet kept shining through the needle narrow even after the troubling experience.
For a 30-year-old Revonia Tolo from Ga-Mashashane Mars, one of the two phenomenal ladies whose legs have been lost on the scene says for her to finally acknowledge her condition was tough and overwhelming. She says it also took her so many years to own her body and be proud in her shorts again.
"I suppose you can't blame me because I wasn't born in a wheelchair. I once felt my legs, walked everywhere, and in just a snap, everything I've worked hard for was all gone - my dreams, my self-confidence, the only thing that didn't leave that night, was me !" Revonia said.
As she continues, she opens up to us that it took her sometime to beliveve in herself again and to know that despite this tragedy, she's still worthy of all good things in life. "For a while, I never have pictured myself talking photos in a wheelchair but if this is the life I got, I'm going to rock it, slay in it and keep on" she concludes. Revonia is today 21years with Baswa Ba Tshireletšo.
Despite all that they have been through, Baswa Ba Tshireletšo in their whole 23 years of delivering good and soul healing music, have been without a doubt, representing the Limpopo province very well.
The group has made it to several DSTV channels including:
- 157 Moja Love
- 261 KZN TV
- 140 Dumisa
serving their soul-healing music with the living hope of one day being on SABC screens and beyond. They have shared the stage with the likes of Issac and Mighty Messengers Gospel Choir, Balatedi Ba Morena Gospel Choir, and many more.
Every group, crew, organisation, and household have their own strengths and weaknesses. With that been said, BBT also has their own box of challenges. Steve Masenya tells us that some of the challenges came through how he had made a promise that he would never let the members of his choir suffer.
He says that most of the members come from vulnerable families and backgrounds that he too feels it is his duty to assist where he can.
"As people that travel a lot, sometimes we find it a bit difficult to take along our two disabled sisters because of their condition that denies them the comfort zone they are looking for. It is sometimes required of us to be choosy having to hire transport. Buses are the cheapest, best and we are able to fit in as a team, but usually, it fights us when we have to accommodate our sisters and hire a more comfortable mini transport for them so they can restore their comfort zone. Rather than that, we are happy".
Mind you, BBT gospel choir are on their own with no sponsors, with 95% of members been students and the others unemployed or juggling between piece jobs and same.
40-year-old founder, tells us that he at some point wanted to quit. But felt he would receive a fierce punishment from God. "It's not easy but I'm glad we made it this far. Potholes on this road, taught us to stay strong and even stronger for the future". Masenya concluded.
Music is productive.
