Makhetha appeared alongside accused number 12, Moeketsi Ramolula in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. Another suspended G4S official Ramolula was denied a bid for bail application.
The two accomplices are accused of plotting the escape of convicted murderer and rapist Bester and also infringement of a body and corruption. Makhetha becomes the 7th of the 12 suspects to be released on bail.
Speaking on behalf of Makhetha’s family, his cousin Thabang Mofokeng said that the family is delighted to hear the news of Makhetha’s release.
“Even though the journey is still long. We still awaiting the trial of the court, to hear what will be the outcome. I’m certain we will come out victorious at the end of this process. When our brother got bail, we felt it is imperative for him. So he can come out and clear his name. He has been through a lot, I don’t want to lie. His entire family, the people who are depending on him have been on their last leg. Things have been difficult for the entire family. I don’t think he is capable to do a crime of that nature, however, we will await all the processes of the court, to be finalized,” Mofokeng said.
12 other suspects including Bester and his girlfriend Nandipha Magudumana are expected to make another court appearance on 8 August.
